Rustlewood occupies a sheltered curve of shoreline on Planting Ground Lake — 1,010 acres of clear northwoods water and one of 28 lakes in the Three Lakes-Eagle River chain.
Eight cabins in total. Four are part of the rental program: The Lodge, Eagle's Nest, Honeymoon, and Bay View. The remaining cabins — Sleepy Hollow, Lake View, Breezy, and Twin Pines — are owner-occupied.
A sandy, gradual-slope swimming beach with a swimming raft anchored offshore in season. Excellent for kids and confident swimmers alike.
A protected harbor with private piers for guest boats. Each cabin has its own assigned dock; the t-dock at the lake's edge is shared for short-term loading and unloading.
A communal stone fire pit at the lake's edge, ringed by benches. Bring marshmallows. Stay until the embers fade.
An on-site fish-cleaning station with running water. A useful spot after a good day on the chain.
A small wooded island in Stumpy Bay, just offshore. Accessible by boat or paddleboard. There's a swing.
Planting Ground Lake is one of 28 lakes in the Three Lakes-Eagle River chain — the largest inland chain of lakes in the world. The chain offers more than 17,500 acres of connected water, miles of undeveloped shoreline, and some of Wisconsin's best muskie fishing.
1,010 acres on Planting Ground Lake alone, with seamless connections to the rest of the chain.
Muskie, walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and panfish. Big-water fishing without leaving the dock.
The chain is navigable for hours in any direction. Bring your own boat or use one of our 14-foot rowboats.
Loons on the water, eagles overhead, deer in the morning, and the occasional black bear sighting. The forest is real here.
